Real life is relentless, let’s agree on that. Just like New York is the city that never sleeps. Life goes on without us, it’s what part of being in the world is all about. Well, SEED is a truly persistent simulation of that ever-on state of being, a gameworld whose lights remain on even when you log off for the night.
Many life sim games are in fact frozen worlds, lonely, time limited snow-globes whose snow doesn’t fall if there’s nobody there to shake them. With SEED, our simulation continues, even if you’re not there to see. Your characters - your lovely, ever curious Seedlings - continue with their daily lives even if you’re not there looking at them. The stakes couldn’t be higher: you build life, you dress it up – but you must schedule it so it can look after itself when you’re not there.
When developing SEED, one key cornerstone was 24/7 persistence. No pause button. And no matter how many game design headaches that caused, we knew that it was worth it because real life doesn’t have a pause button. Logging on and off has now become its own kind of gameplay. Mindfully scheduling when to re-enter SEED is exactly the new experience we wanted: you catch up on the new friendships and enemies formed, the rival business that opened next door, the election result that has changed how your society is governed!
‘We don’t want to freeze the world as soon you close your laptop,’ Game Director Mundi Vondi says, ‘that just feels like cheating. And not at all real. Persistence means real, all too real, consequence.’
Step into a world that never stops, SEED is a whole new layer of existence.
