Release Date 07.09.2026
Storage is getting a rebalance. Container capacity will be based on its physical footprint, with bonuses for tier and size. Dedicated bulk storage will hold more, while many shelves and other furniture containers will hold less.
Why storage is changing
Container capacities used to be set individually. Over time, the values drifted: a Fancy Storage Shelf occupying 0.61 m² held 500 volume, while a Large Storage Platform occupying 21 m² held only 1,800. Building more shelves was often better than using the platforms designed for bulk storage.
Basing capacity on footprint, tier and size gives storage a more consistent progression. Better tiers and larger containers mean more storage. Overall storage available per plot will decrease because small shelves previously held so much.
Capacity at a glance
The Expedition Container also becomes craftable and has decay reduction.

Ten craftable shelves, pantries and racks had no assigned capacity and inherited a generous default. They will now hold between 20 and 110 volume, depending on their size.
Where items go by default
Default container requests will direct items toward appropriate storage. You can change these settings at any time, including storing ore in a bookshelf.
Building Inboxes
New Building Inboxes will accept nothing by default. This prevents Seedlings from filling them with unrelated items and clogging deliveries.
